Development of Pulmonary Tuberculosis During Adrenal Steroid Therapy

, M.D.
Pages 178-182 | Published online: 18 Apr 2016

Abstract

Adrenal steroids appear capable of exerting a harmful effect in cases of human tuberculosis. This effect can be minimized by administration of chemotherapeutic agents, especially isoniazid.

The relationship between administration of adrenal steroids and tuberculosis is complex, but studies show that it may be a factor in activating tuberculous lesions in some instances.
