Abstract
Most lung disorders in the aged begin during adult life; however, certain conditions are particularly common in older patients. Among these are bacterial bronchopneu monia, pulmonary tuberculosis, carcinoma, chronic bronchitis and emphysema.
Chest x-rays in the presence of respiratory complaints and after pulmonary infections, complete evaluation and periodic re-examination of any apparently inactive tuberculous lesion, antituberculous chemotherapy in certain cases of tuberculosis (even without proof of active disease, and vigorous and regular treatment in chronic obstructive lung diseases are essential.
