Relation of Colonic and Rectal Polyps to Cancer

, M.D.
Pages 206-213 | Published online: 18 Apr 2016

Abstract

There are many gaps in our knowledge concerning the development of cancer in polyps of the colon and rectum, but there are abundant clinical and pathologic data indicating an intimate relation between the two conditions. Sigmoidoscopy should be part of every complete physical examination, and roentgenographic studies of the colon should be made when indicated. All polyps found should be removed or destroyed.
