Abstract
The clinical, electrocardiographic, radiologic and angiocardiographic findings in 34 cases of schistosomiasis caused by Schistosoma mansoni in which there were cardiopulmonary manifestations are reviewed, as well as the results of other examinations. All the patients had hepatosplenic involvement. Clinical findings include those associated with pulmonary hypertension. Cyanosis is rare, and it has been suggested that it is due to intrapulmonary arteriovenous microfistulas. The right chambers of the heart are enlarged, and the pulmonary hili are prominent. The characteristic focal opacities and granulo-filamentous changes in the lungs are described, as well as the appearance of schistosomal granulomas and arterial lesions.
