Abstract
Juvenile-type adenomas and adenomas in adults have different histologic characteristics. Adenomatous polyps of the colon are rare in teen-agers. Crohn's disease should be suspected when symptoms suggest ulcerative colitis but when sigmoidoscopic and roentgenologic evidence does not support this diagnosis. Corticosteroids should be used with extreme caution or avoided altogether in ulcerative colitis. Panproctocolectomy is a satisfactory operation for permanent cure of ulcerative colitis when the disease is sufficiently severe to warrant it.
