Abstract
Mild to moderate depressions are frequently misdiagnosed, as they can present symptoms characteristic of almost any type of organic disease.
Depressions may be distinguished clinically as reactive, neurotic and endogenous. Symptoms may be classified as autonomic, emotional and mental.
Prognosis depends on early diagnosis and prompt treatment.
In general, electroshock therapy has proved to be the most effective treatment for all types of depression. Psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy also are useful in certain depressions.
