Abstract
Evaluation of the long-term effectiveness of uricosuric therapy in patients with gout and renal calculi as well as in a sizable group of patients with renal calculi and hyperuricemia without gout is under way. Theoretically, there is no reason to suspect that use of uricosuric drugs would enhance the development of renal uric acid calculi. Illustrative cases seem to document the assumption that further calculi can be avoided by such a therapeutic program.
