Abstract

Although jejunal diverticula are rare and seldom bleed, they occasionally are responsible for hypochromic anemia. Roentgenographs study of the small bowel may reveal such lesions in cases of unexplained iron-deficiency anemia.

In the case reported here, it appears that bleeding from a solitary jejunal diverticulum was sufficient to cause anemia.

Diligent search will reveal a source of blood loss in nearly all cases of hypochromic anemia.
