Abstract
Intensive research in recent years has yielded new information which could revolutionize the management of diabetes. Some of the findings are chiefly of theoretical interest but many are directly applicable to clinical practice. Substances in plasma which antagonize the action of insulin may help to explain the pathogenesis of diabetes and also the development of resistance to insulin.
Only modest progress has been made in clarifying the pathogenesis of the degenerative vascular disease which accompanies long-standing diabetes.
