Abstract
Headache is a symptom, not a disease, and its cause must be diligently sought. Personal, family and drug history and a thorough physical examination lead to correct diagnosis in most cases. Some patients require further diagnostic studies, indicated by certain warning signals. Treatment of headache of organic cause is directed toward the basic disorder. If no organic disorder is evident, treatment consists of reassuring the patient and the judicious use of certain medications. Narcotics have no place in the treatment of ordinary headache.
