Is Coronary Heart Disease Preventable?

, M.D.
Pages 520-523 | Published online: 18 Apr 2016

Abstract

Coronary heart disease is a leading cause of death in the United States.

Factors implicated in the disease process include heredity, sex, advancing age, blood lipids, hypertension, heavy cigarette smoking, obesity, lack of physical activity, and stress.

Dietary control of blood lipids seems to offer the most practical means of large-scale primary prevention of this disease.
