Abstract
Many persons who have hearing impairment cannot be helped by medical or surgical procedures but would benefit greatly from use of hearing aids. Probably no more than 25 per cent of those who could use a hearing aid do so, and probably no more than 11 per cent of those who purchase hearing aids do so on a physician's advice. It is hoped that more physicians, particularly those in general practice, will interest themselves in the problems of hearing, hearing impairment, and hearing aids and so be better able to advise patients who have auditory problems in communication.
