Emergency Treatment of Eye Injuries

Abstract

Proper emergency treatment of ocular injuries is fundamental to preserving vision. Essential to emergency treatment are a good history, a good light, certain ophthalmic equipment and medications, and an alert awareness that a serious injury may have occurred. Referral to an ophthalmologist, when necessary, should be prompt. Everyone, physicians and laymen alike, should try to prevent accidental injuries to the eyes and support efforts directed to this purpose.
