Abstract

“Delivery by appointment” has a limited place in obstetric practice and induction of labor is advisable in some cases because of disease or obstetric complications, but routine induction solely as a matter of convenience could lead to medicolegal liability because it is medically unnecessary. Indications, contraindications and hazards of induction of labor are discussed.
