Allergy in the Aged

, M.D.
Pages 533-537 | Published online: 18 Apr 2016

Abstract

Although allergy in the aged is generally similar to that in younger persons, some allergies disappear or involve different shock organs in later life.

Opinions differ regarding skin testing in elderly persons, but it can be useful if one considers the known diminished reactivity of senile skin.

Experimental studies have shown impaired antibody formation in the aged, but it is not known that this carries over into allergic states.
