Abstract

The results of treatment of gallbladder disease in a large private hospital, the Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati, are reviewed. The figures compare favorably with the national averages. The mortality rate for elective cholecystectomy was 0.28 per cent. Acute cholecystitis or choledocholithiasis significantly increases the operative risk; early operative intervention is recommended in order to prevent these complications.
