Abstract

An attack of acute pancreatitis should prompt a thorough search for an underlying causative disease and its eradication when possible. Direct drain age procedures designed to relieve obstruction of the pancreatic ducts have recently been performed in a small number of patients with chronic pancreatitis and appeal to hold promise.
