Abstract

The predicted decline in tuberculosis morbidity is not being fully realized. Eradication of the disease will require an intensification of efforts to find and cure it. Even more important than familiarity with the established chemotherapeutic agents for treatment of tuberculosis is a clear understanding of present-day indications for treatment, including “prophylactic” therapy. Diagnostic criteria for selection of cases are stressed, and recommendations for practical utilization of chemotherapeutic agents are presented.
