Encephalitis in Children

, M.D.
Pages 608-618 | Published online: 18 Apr 2016

Abstract

Almost all forms of encephalitis may have serious sequelae in infants and young children. The younger the patient, the greater is the risk of sequelae. Two types of encephalitis are considered: infectious and para-infectious. Clues to etiologic diagnosis are presented. Although specific therapy for the majority of etiologic entities is not available, a variety of other treatment measures and procedures are emphasized and will contribute significantly to a more successful outcome.
