Abstract
Dermatologists use drugs in unique ways. Several classes of agents of particular value in cutaneous diseases are discussed. Drugs used in acne include antibiotics, diuretics, estrogens and contraceptives. Steroids are given systemically, injected intralesionally, and applied topically with or without occlusive dressings in treatment of various dermatoses. Recent developments include trials of antihistaminic-antiserotonin and antiserotonin compounds. In spite of their toxicity, antimalarial drugs are valuable in treating collagen diseases and photosensitivity reactions.
