Advances in Anesthesiology 1958 to 1964

Abstract

There have been significant advances in anesthesiology in recent years. Among them are a new theory of the action of anesthetics at the cellular level, physiologic measurements during anesthesia in human subjects, information concerning the uptake and distribution of inhalation anesthetics in man, observations suggesting ways to prevent hypoxia in the immediate postoperative period, and encouraging results of animal experiments concerned with the production of anesthesia by means of electric energy.
