Abstract

Ichthyosis simplex, congenital ichthyosiform erythroderma, and ichthyosis congenita constitute the three main groups of hereditary dermatoses characterized by dry, rough and scaly skin. Combinations of associated findings within each group have been designated as syndromes. Ref-sum's and Rud's syndromes are found in association with ichthyosis simplex, and Sjögren-Larsson syndrome and ichthyosis linearis circumflexa in association with congenital ichthyosiform erythroderma.

The authors describe each of these genodermatoses in detail and give suggestions for treatment of those conditions which respond to therapy.
