Abstract
It is suggested that the hemolytic uremic syndrome is common to a number of morbid conditions and is not a new entity. Three illustrative cases are presented, all of them fatal. Necropsy revealed diverse pathologic processes (microangiopathic hemolytic anemia, acute glomerulonephritis with pyelonephritis, malignant hypertension). In the management of the renal insufficiency, especially in patients whose renal lesions may be reversible, dialysis may be more beneficial than a conservative program.
