Vesical Defenses Against Infection

, M.D.
Pages 397-402 | Published online: 18 Apr 2016

Abstract

The normal urinary tract is protected from infection both by its ability to empty itself and by its intrinsic defense mechanisms. If micturition is abnormal or if reflux occurs, the defense mechanisms are overwhelmed and infection may become established. Restoration of normal voiding and elimination of reflux will allow eradication of infection.
