Part 2. Aortic Stenosis and Pulmonary Stenosis

Abstract

The diagnosis of aortic stenosis can be made at the bedside and the degree of obstruction estimated with a fair amount of accuracy. Aortic valvotomy by open heart surgery is indicated in severe aortic stenosis. Operative mortality among patients without cardiac decompensation is about 5 per cent.

A confident diagnosis of pulmonary stenosis can be made at the bedside, with an accurate assessment of severity. The treatment of moderate or severe pulmonary stenosis is surgical.
