Abstract
Many physicians believe that a mole which may be malignant can be treated by simple excision or cauterization; others believe that no therapy is of value in malignant melanoma. Both concepts are erroneous. Malignant melanoma can be treated satisfactorily if initial therapy is correct. The most effective treatment is local excision of the lesion, wide enough to require grafting, together with dissection of the regional lymph node.
