Abstract

The newer abdominal arteriographic and venographic technics are described and illustrated. Selective catheterization offers several advantages in studying branches of the abdominal aorta and viscera supplied by these vessels. Contrast material can be delivered in greater concentration solely into the artery of interest (celiac, hepatic, splenic, superior mesenteric, renal, inferior mesenteric). The selective technics are particularly helpful in evaluation of solid abdominal viscera. An improved method for demonstrating the origin of the superior mesenteric artery is introduced.
