Abstract

A classification of hypoglycemia is presented which is based on the relationship to ingestion of food. It serves as a background for consideration of differential diagnosis of the many and diverse pathologic processes that may be attended by abnormally low blood glucose values. Laboratory procedures that are useful in establishing the underlying cause are discussed, including the tolbutamide and leucine tests, and recommendations for therapy are given.
