Abstract
This report is based on personal observations in 2,380 cases of cancer of the colon, rectum and anal canal. The “pull-thru” operation (abdominoperineal proctosig-moidectomy with preservation of the anal sphincter) was performed in 705 of the cases. The results compare favorably with those of the Miles operation (abdominoperineal excision), and in some respects the pull-thru procedure is superior. Preservation of the sphincter in no way compromises radicality, and continence is retained.
