Abstract

Diabetic amyotrophy is characterized by asymmetric muscular weakness and wasting affecting primarily the proximal leg muscles. Prognosis is favorable but improvement may be related to careful diabetic supervision and active exercises. Physicians are urged to consider the possible presence of this disorder in the differential diagnosis of proximal myopathy.
