Electroconvulsive Therapy in Psychiatric Patients With Severe Cardiovascular Disease

Abstract

Two patients with psychosis and severe cardiac disease in whom electroconvulsive therapy was used successfully are reported, and the interaction of the two illnesses is discussed. Also outlined is the role of the internist or general practitioner in the medical support of psychiatric patients with severe cardiovascular disease for whom electroconvulsive therapy is contemplated.
