New Approach to Care of Pregnant Cardiac Patient

Abstract

The protracted hospital stays of patients whose pregnancies are complicated by congestive heart failure are characterized by emotional upheavals which probably contribute to refractoriness to therapy. An experimental program of home care for pregnant cardiac patients has been put into effect in the hope of demonstrating that they can be successfully cared for in their homes. Psychologic assessment of the patient's emotional problems and her ability to cope with them is a prominent feature of the plan.
