Abstract
At least 80 to 85 per cent of patients with lumbar disk protrusion should be treated conservatively. But this does not mean simply rest in bed. Efforts are directed toward relieving pain and muscle spasm and restoring mobility. Flexion exercises are started as soon as possible. A plaster jacket worn for six weeks, beginning when acute symptoms have subsided, has been highly effective, permitting patients to resume their usual activities sooner.
