“Quickie” Laboratory Tests

, PH.D.
Pages 664-668 | Published online: 18 Apr 2016

Abstract

Physicians should evaluate available commercial tests in terms of their own personnel, equipment and work load. Prepared reagent tests merely provide reagents. Quantitative procedures should not be treated as screening tests. Manufacturers often underestimate the time and the cost necessary to perform accurate analyses. Proficient technicians, good equipment and laboratory controls are necessary for reliable test results. Most physicians should limit office laboratory work to screening tests.
