Management of Rh Incompatibility

Abstract

The spectrophotometric analysis of amniotic fluid is a valuable new laboratory tool for predicting the severity of hemolytic disease in the newborn. Evaluation of the pregnant Rh-negative patient includes this analysis in addition to a carefully obtained obstetrical history, documentation of the husband's genotype, and a Coombs titer. These procedures, repeated as necessary, determine whether or not the pregnancy should be allowed to continue to full term.
