Abstract
The high degree of effectiveness of the surgical approach to strokes has been demonstrated in a series of more than 2000 patients who have undergone operations to remove occlusive lesions in arteries supplying blood to the brain, e.g., carotid endarterectomy, or to restore an adequate cerebral blood flow by other means, such as by use of a bypass graft. The key to proper diagnosis and treatment is arteriographic visualization of all the major vessels supplying blood to the brain.
