Abstract

Except for stage IV lesions, which call for pelvic exenteration, radiation therapy is the preferred treatment for invasive carcinoma of the cervix. In contrast to a surgical “cure” rate of 70 to 75 per cent, a cure rate of 90 per cent can be obtained in stage I cervical cancer by radiation therapy as outlined here. Teamwork by gynecologist and radiologist is stressed.
