Rectal Bleeding in Children

, M.D.
Pages 431-437 | Published online: 18 Apr 2016

Abstract

Prompt recognition and correction of the cause of rectal bleeding in children may be a lifesaving procedure. If the source of the bleeding is not obvious, a careful history should be obtained to rule out congenital and familial disorders. If diagnosis cannot be made after appropriate examination and tests, laparotomy is in order.

Causes of rectal bleeding in children, diagnostic procedures, and treatment are outlined.
