Abstract
Thyroid scanning frequently is useful in the management of patients with thyroid disease. Nodules can be outlined and their functional status determined. Scanography often is of value in cases of chronic thyroiditis associated with nodules, lobulations and asymmetry of the gland. It is helpful in detecting substernal thyroid extensions and in identifying masses in the neck or mediastinum as being of thyroidal or non-thyroidal origin. A scanning program is also useful in postoperative evaluation of thyroid cancer patients.
