Abstract
Although estimation of intra-uterine fetal size and the patient's due date are the best guides, there is no simple method for determining prolonged gestation. The physician must rely on his clinical judgment in deciding whether or not to induce labor. The so-called postmaturity syndrome is of little use in managing this problem.
