Abstract
Functional hypoglycemia in peptic ulcer patients who have not had gastrectomy has generally gone unrecognized. It has been reported to occur in as many as two-thirds of all patients with peptic ulcer. As a working hypothesis of the cause of this reactive hypoglycemia, a sequence of gastric hyper-motility, hyperglycemia, hyperinsulinism and hypoglycemia and gastric hypersecretion is suggested. Characteristic features observed in a group of 22 cases are presented and six illustrative cases are described.
