Abstract

It is apparent from a study of patients with diastolic hypertension that there is no clear-cut clinical syndrome which distinguishes renovascular from essential hypertension. The most helpful clinical sign leading to a diagnosis of renovascular hypertension is an upper abdominal bruit. Contrary to opinions expressed by others, the data suggest that renovascular hypertension does not tend to simulate primary aldosteronism.
