Abstract
At the age of eight a boy began having irregular attacks of fever lasting from 4 to 24 hours at intervals of approximately 14 days. During the next four years the patient was subjected to a variety of tests, all of which failed to explain the fever. Finally a complete family history revealed the presence of epilepsy in a maternal uncle. The patient was treated with diphenylhydantoin sodium (DILANTIN®) and has since been free of fever with the exception of episodes occurring when the dosage was discontinued or reduced below 100 mg. daily.
