Abstract
On entering school, the child begins his quest for an independent yet merged identity.
Failure to crystallize a stable ego identity in adolescence impairs self-confidence and self-respect and paralyzes independent judgment and thinking. Only after the adolescent establishes a workable sense of identity do childhood and growth end and living begin for him.
The physical, sexual, emotional and intellectual developmental stages of the school-aged child are discussed.
