Abstract

The physiologic basis of normal equilibrium can be disturbed in any of its broad and diverse pathways. True dizziness is a feeling of rotation or spinning. Associated signs and symptoms may be important clues to the cause. The initial attack of multiple sclerosis may resemble Meniere's disease. A patient with unexplained unilateral hearing loss may have an eighth nerve tumor which, if small, can be removed through the ear.
