Abstract

Penetrating abdominal trauma calls for surgical exploration. Ina case of nonpenetrating injury, a decision concerning the need for surgical intervention is based on a careful clinical assessment of clinical findings. Routine laboratory studies may be helpful but must be interpreted in light of the clinical picture. The various abdominal organs and structures are considered separately, with emphasis on special diagnostic studies and treatment.
