Problems in Consultation Work

, M.D.
Pages 140-143 | Published online: 18 Apr 2016

Abstract

The incidence of misunderstandings appears to be much higher in consultation work than in other doctor- patient and doctor-doctor relationships. Difficulties arise because of uncertainty and confusion concerning the roles of the persons involved. This uncertainty creates anxiety, which in turn results in peculiar behavioral patterns. Initial clarification of each participant's role in consultation would improve this situation.
