Abstract
Alterations of the serum concentration or functional properties of immunoglobulins characterize a number of disorders of interest to clinicians. Four major classes of immunoglobulins are recognized (IgG, IgA, IgM and IgD) and a fifth (IgE) has been postulated. The current status of studies of immunoglobulin structure is reviewed.
