Abstract
The diseases of the liver which are potentially of surgical concern are reviewed. Trauma, abscesses, cysts, benign and malignant tumors, and metastatic neoplasms are considered. Hepatic resection is classified and illustrated in keeping with the newer concept of segmental anatomy of the liver.
