, M.D.
Pages 348-350 | Published online: 18 Apr 2016

Abstract

Biliary calculus is the most common cause of obstructive jaundice. Less frequent causes are carcinoma of the pancreas, pancreatitis, and carcinoma of the extra-hepatic ducts, including the ampulla of Vater. The five year survival rate in ampullary carcinoma is acceptable when compared with that of carcinoma of the pancreas.
